The First Steps Toward Visualization

1. The first step toward visualizing is to relax. It’s not necessary to sit in a yoga position or to prepare as though you’re going to meditate. You merely need to get comfortable in a chair or in bed.

2. You can do this in the morning when you wake up or before bed. Anytime that works for you is fine, but try to stick to the same time each day. This will make a habit out of your visualization practice.

3. Begin by breathing slowly and then with each breath, take a deeper and slower one. Don’t strain. The outbreath is just as important as the inbreath. Blow out gently through your mouth. As you relax, clear your mind but it isn’t necessary to “get rid of thoughts”

4. Your inner guidance will come to you through pictures, or words or a feeling. It’s different for everyone. The idea of doing these visualizations is to deepen your connection to your inner guidance so that you can get answers to your questions. It’s also a way of creating a better life, expanding on what you already have, and gaining insights into long standing problems and issues.

5. Imagine a white screen at first and allow the process to take off on its own. Don’t control or manipulate. Be open enough to allow the answers to come. Think of an issue that is on your mind, like a relationship or a problem at work. Turn it into a question like “what is going to help improve my relationship with my boss” or “why do I have so much trouble finding healthy people to be in relationships with?”. Then wait for the answer. Listen, watch and wait. The answer might come immediately or it might happen over a period of time. You might get messages in your dreams or outer experiences that seem to answer the question. Be aware when the answer comes. If you’re not sure, then ask for confirmation.

6. There are many visualizations that you can try but this is a good place to start. If you learn this basic technique you can build from this point.
